Problem
Many people want to improve their photography but lack structure when practising. Without clear prompts or guidance, practice often becomes random and inconsistent.
As a result, beginners struggle to develop specific skills like composition, framing, or lighting.
The Idea
Pixel Memories introduces guided photography practice by combining creative challenges with real-world exploration.
Users receive photography prompts and are guided to locations around Melbourne CBD where they can capture specific types of images and practise different techniques.
Research &
Key Insights
To better understand motivations around photography practice, I conducted focus groups exploring how people learn photography and what would encourage them to practise more consistently.
Insight 1: The learning should be fun
Users want to improve their photography while having fun at the same time.
Insight 2: Guided learning/practice is key
Users need to put reps in practically to improve their photography skills.
Insight 3: Location matters
Interesting photography locations are important for driving engagement for users.
Insight 4: Simplicity is essential
The app should be intuitive and easy to navigate. There should be little to no challenges for the user to go through the app.
